Welcome to The Backyard Schoolhouse! I’m Teacher Katy. I have lived in Grass Valley all my life.  I’ve been very fortunate to raise my own children here and they have attended the same Grass Valley Schools that I attended.  Living here in this community I had wonderful teachers, coaches, and club leaders that inspired me to become a teacher myself.  Living in such a beautiful area I have a love and respect for my community, nature, and exploring that heavily influence my preschool teaching.  I want to inspire children to learn, explore, and nurture the magic that happens in early child development.

Curriculum

The Backyard Schoolhouse is a little granny house in my backyard that we have made into a preschool. We provide a loving environment in which children can build their foundation for kindergarten readiness.  The classroom is set for children to have fun and enjoy learning math, science, language arts, music, creative movement, art, and social-dramatic play. Each child is unique, and in this all-inclusive classroom, independent curiosity, discovery, and problem solving will allow individual growth and the development of a positive self-esteem.

Daily Schedule (Open Mon.- Thurs. 8am to 4:30pm & Fri. 8am to 1pm)

8-9:00 Good morning arrivals & breakfast                  

9:30 Calendar and circle time (circle games, singing, art projects, & story time)
